Love the Jaws of the Lion, 2015
Concept:
The decision of using fabric material recites the connection of our body shell, as well as our skins when we are alive. At the same time, it also reminds of a mummy’s shroud, such as the plain weave fabric in which a dead person is wrapped up.
I have specially arranged the displacement of two different layers with same imagery : one of them is being kept the whole narrative imagery, the another one serves as the remote background of work. The display result is absorbing. The art piece looks like a three-dimensional illusion. Thanks to the lighting and the environment of the Crypt Gallery, the translucent layers are merged and changed into a new perspective in the surrounding space. The somewhat hidden figures engaged in a sex scene could signify the intimacy and privacy of the viewer with the content. |
